Jenna Ortega and Natalie Portman are up to no good in the first image from The Gallerist. The film is the first from director Cathy Yan since her DC Comics film Birds of Prey debuted in 2020. The art-world thriller will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2026.
In the new image, an uncharacteristically blonde Portman peers around a corner, with a bespectacled Ortega in the background. They’re undoubtedly up to no good, as the film is a thriller revolving around a gallerist and her attempt to sell a corpse at Art Basel Miami Beach, the largest art fair in the United States. The film boasts a star-studded cast: in addition to Portman, it will also feature Sterling K. Brown, Zach Galifianakis, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Daniel Brühl, and Charli XCX. In addition to directing, Yan also co-wrote the film’s script with James Pederson (High Heat).
What Will Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega Star in Next?
Portman has had a busy year: in addition to starring in the Guy Ritchie action comedy Fountain of Youth with John Krasinski, she also lent her voice to the animated features Arco and The Twits. Next up, she’s set to star in the Lena Dunham romantic comedy Good Sex alongside Mark Ruffalo, Meg Ryan, and Rashida Jones. Ortega, meanwhile, continues to be one of the most in-demand young actors in Hollywood. After starring in Death of a Unicorn and Hurry Up Tomorrow this year, as well as the second season of her hit Netflix series Wednesday, she has two new films set to hit theaters in the near future, in addition to The Gallerist. She’s set to star in Ghostwriter, the first feature from director J.J. Abrams in seven years; Glen Powell, Emma Mackey, and Samuel L. Jackson will also star in the fantasy film. She will also appear in Taika Waititi‘s next film, Klara and the Sun; an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro‘s dystopian novel of the same name, it will also star Amy Adams, Natasha Lyonne, and Steve Buscemi.
This will be the final Sundance Film Festival in its original home of Park City, Utah; it will also be the first since the death of festival founder Robert Redford last fall. The venerable indie film festival will relocate to Boulder, Colorado in 2027.
The Gallerist will premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, which runs from January 22 to February 1, 2026.
