The up-and-coming director Jonathan Entwistle has officially signed on to direct a film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Endless Night novel. Entwistle has been a rising name in Hollywood after the success of his Netflix series The End of the F***ing World and I Am Not Okay With This. He is also coming off the moderate box office run of Karate Kid: Legends, which earned $117 million globally on a $45 million budget, so there is a lot of interest in what he does next. The new film is described as a modern psychological thriller that reimagines Christie’s classic story. Endless Night has always been one of the more experimental books in her collection because it leans more into romance and horror than traditional detective work.
It is important to note that this new film is not part of Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot film series. According to a recent news report, the film will follow an ambitious twentysomething hustler who gets pulled into a dangerous game of blame and deceit after becoming romantically involved with an American heiress and her assistant. Christie’s original novel focused on a young man from a working-class background who dreamed of building a perfect home on a piece of land called Gipsy’s Acre. The place had a dark history, and the locals believed it was cursed. He eventually married a wealthy heiress and secured the money to build his dream home, but soon, everyone connected to the land began dying in fatal Final Destination-esque accidents. The movie’s synopsis suggests that the upcoming adaptation will follow many of the same story beats from the novel.
Emily Siegel is writing the script for the film. She is a New York Times bestselling author who also adapted We Were Never Here for Netflix. The movie will be produced by Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman for The Picture Company. Studiocanal’s Ron Halpern and Shana Eddy Grouf are serving as executive producers.
‘Endless Night’ Is Also Getting a Limited Series Adaptation on BBC
The movie adaptation is a double dose of good news for Christie fans because, in 2025, it was also announced that Endless Night would be getting a three-part limited series adaptation on BBC. Sarah Phelps was brought on to lead that project. She has worked on several Christie adaptations before, so her involvement brought extra confidence. Filming was expected to begin this year, although no major updates have surfaced since the announcement. BBC also adapted Christie’s 1944 novel Towards Zero into a three-part series this year, and it earned a positive 74% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. So, the studio seems ready to continue its Christie streak, and new Endless Night updates should arrive soon.
But that is not all. Christie fans have a lot more coming their way because 20th Century Studios also confirmed in October 2024 that the studio was working on three major adaptations. These include Miss Marple, And Then There Were None, and Witness for the Prosecution. Miss Marple is easily the most anticipated of these because she is one of Christie’s most iconic detectives and stands right beside Hercule Poirot in popularity. There have also been talks of a possible fourth entry in Branagh’s Hercule Poirot film series after the success of Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and A Haunting in Venice. It was rumored that the fourth film would be adapting The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, but nothing official has been announced yet. Netflix also has its own Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials on the way. The series is set to premiere on January 15 and features an ensemble cast that includes Martin Freeman, Helena Bonham Carter, Mia McKenna Bruce, Corey Mylchreest, and Edward Bluemel.
No more details on Entwistle‘s signed projects have been unveiled yet.
