Today is a great day for Idris Elba fans, as one of his biggest recent projects is finally on its way back. Apple TV has officially debuted the Season 2 trailer for Hijack, the hit thriller series that first premiered in 2023. Hijack Season 2 will begin streaming on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, and air new episodes every week until the Season 2 finale on March 4. Where Season 1 consisted of seven episodes, Season 2 features of eight episodes, but the fate of the show beyond Season 2 is unclear at this time. If Season 2 is anywhere near as successful as Season 1, though, a renewal is likely inevitable.
The first season of Hijack followed Sam Nelson (Idris Elba) as he negotiates with people who have taken over his plane during his seven-hour flight from Dubai to London. In Season 2, Sam finds himself on an underground train when its commuters are taken hostage, which puts hundreds of lives at stake. Similar to Season 1, Sam is forced to negotiate with the kidnappers by getting to the heart of the crisis, but one wrong decision could mean death for everyone on board. In addition to starring in the show, Elba is also an executive producer on Hijack.
Hijack was written and created for TV by George Kay and Jim Field Smith, and returning stars from Season 1 include Christine Adams, Max Beesley, and Archie Panjabi. Newcomers include Christian Näthe, Clare-Hope Ashitey, Lisa Vicari, Toby Jones, Karima McAdams, and Christine Paul. Apple TV spared no expense in building out the Hijack Season 2 ensemble alongside and opposite Elba, who earned an Emmy nomination for his performance in Season 1.
What Else Is Streaming on Apple TV Right Now?
The most popular show on Apple TV right now is Pluribus, the sci-fi hit starring Rhea Seehorn that hails from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. Following closely behind it is the first season of The Last Frontier, which serves as Apple’s wintry Yellowstone replacement. Jason Clarke stars in the Alaska-set series. The two most popular movies on Apple TV are The Family Plan and The Family Plan 2, which both star Mark Wahlberg. There have been whispers that a third movie is in the works, but nothing concrete has been announced yet.
