‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’: Jennifer Lawrence & Josh Hutcherson to Reprise Roles!!

10 years after what many thought would be her final appearance as Katniss Everdeen, Oscar-winning star Jennifer Lawrence is finally coming back to The Hunger Games franchise. News broke late last night that both Jennifer Lawrence and her Hunger Games costar, Josh Hutcherson, are attached to reprise their roles as Katniss and Peeta in the next installment of the franchise, Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently scheduled for release on November 20, 2026, and it will serve as a prequel to the Hunger Games movies that both Lawrence and Hutchinson starred in in the mid-2010s. Details about their roles are being kept under wraps, but it’s expected their appearances will be some sort of flash-forward sequence.

When The Hunger Games wrapped up its first batch of stories in 2015 with Mockingjay — Part 2, most fans expected that the franchise would move forward, not back. However, Sunrise on the Reaping isn’t the first time The Hunger Games has turned back the clock. Two years ago, Lionsgate and Suzanne Collins brought forth The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, another prequel set 40 years before Sunrise on the Reaping. It tells the story of the 10th Hunger Games, and stars Rachel Zegler.

When Does Jennifer Lawrence’s Next Movie Come Out?

Jennifer Lawrence is attached to star in a handful of projects, but Sunrise on the Reaping is the only one with a slot on the release schedule. She’s expected to star in a mystery film titled The Wives that’s currently in pre-production, but it’s unclear when it will begin filming or be released. She most recently starred opposite Robert Pattinson and Lakeith Stanfield in Die My Love, the R-rated psychological thriller that’s now available on VOD after grossing only $11 million at the global box office.
