‘The Nice Guys 2’: Russell Crowe Reveals the Status of Proposed Sequel with Ryan Gosling!!

Nearly a decade after The Nice Guys became a cult favorite, Russell Crowe is once again stirring the pot — and this time, he’s sharing the wild sequel idea that he and Ryan Gosling can’t stop laughing about. Speaking with Triple J, and in an interview that generated quite a few headlines (looking at you, Gladiator 2), Crowe revealed the pitch he and Gosling used to joke about between takes:

There was actually a lot of talk at one point in time about doing a Nice Guys 2 with me and Ryan Gosling. We had an idea, that idea made us laugh. And I don’t know why, because it’s not really a joke, it’s just a title. But every time we’d say it out loud, we’d both start laughing. And that is, you know, if we’re going to do a sequel, it’d be The Nice Guys 2: Mexican Detectives. Why is that funny? I don’t know why that’s funny, but with those two characters it’s like, oh my God that’s going to be crazy.

It’s not a full plot. It’s barely even a premise. But apparently the title alone was enough to send both stars into fits of laughter every time they said it out loud — a testament to how deeply fans still love the chaotic energy of Holland March and Jackson Healy.

Will We Actually Get a ‘Nice Guys 2’?

Speaking to Collider‘s Aidan Kelley earlier this year, The Nice Guys director Shane Black spoke about the chances of reuniting Gosling and Crowe for a potential sequel to The Nice Guys. While he isn’t jumping to come back, he also wouldn’t rule it out either:

“There is a chance, but it requires a great deal of things to go right at the same time because there are legalities, and there’s also the fact that, honestly, the first movie didn’t make a lot of money. And the next one will probably cost a great deal. So you go ‘Hey, you want to make a sequel to this?’ and they say ‘How much?’ ‘$100 million.’ ‘No.’ But hopefully someday. I think there’s enough generated awareness and enthusiasm.”

The Nice Guys stars Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe and was directed by Shane Black.
