Andrew Lincoln thrilled audiences when he took on the role of Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead, and now he is returning to television to face a new big bad: creepy neighbors. The first trailer for Showtime and Paramount+‘s new series Coldwater dropped this morning, providing a better look at the highly-anticipated psychological thriller. Lincoln stars as John, a man who moves to a Scottish town called Coldwater with his wife, Game of Thrones star Indira Varma, and the town isn’t as quaint as they thought it would be.

Created and written by David Ireland, the series is directed by Lee Haven-Jones and Andrew Cumming. Outside of Lincoln and Varma, the cast also includes Our Flag Means Death star Ewen Bremmer and Torchwood star Eve Myles. The trailer reveals that Coldwater is the perfect kind of thriller. It lays out John and his family’s move to Scotland, where they are confronted by their neighbors, who seem friendly — but are clearly hiding something. The trailer also sets up a mystery in the town, with a flyer posted about the death of a woman.

Coldwater is described as follows:

“Coldwater follows stay-at-home dad John, who relocates his family from London to the remote Scottish town of Coldwater after a violent incident at a playground triggers a personal crisis. Once there, he’s welcomed by neighbor Tommy — a charismatic local staple — until a series of unsettling events forces John to question who Tommy really is.”

Andrew Lincoln Is Officially Back on TV

When Lincoln was announced to play Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead, many knew him as the man with the signs in Love Actually. He became a staple of the long-running hit show, remaining its lead for nine seasons, before taking a step back. He returned to The Walking Dead universe last year, with The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, and audiences are still waiting to see if he will be back as the franchise’s spin-offs are starting to wind down. Lincoln just wrapped up a 3-month theatre run last month, starring in Simon Stone‘s critically acclaimed adaptation of Henrik Ibsen‘s The Lady from the Sea, opposite Alicia Vikander and Joe Alwyn.

The new six-episode series will premiere Friday, January 9, 2026, exclusively on Paramount+ Premium in the U.S., with new episodes dropping weekly through the series finale on February 13, 2026.
