Court is now in session over at Apple TV where Season 2 of Presumed Innocent has officially begun production. Taking to social media to share the good news about what became one of the streamer’s most popular thrillers in recent years, the platform shared a short teaser that showcased three of the sophomore season’s stars as they prepare to snap into character and deliver another pulse-pounding story to audiences. Standing next to one another in an office, Matthew Rhys (The Beast in Me), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), and Rachel Brosnahan (Superman) are dressed in their courtroom best as a clapperboard marks the first day of filming.
Featuring Jake Gyllenhaal in the leading role, the first season of Presumed Innocent centered its story on Scott Turow’s 1987 novel of the same name, which previously received the on-screen treatment courtesy of the 1990 Harrison Ford-led feature-length film. This time around, Jo Murray’s Dissection of a Murder serves as the foundation of the storyline, the novel has not yet hit shelves, leaving audiences much more in the dark about the crime that unfolds and how the characters interact with one another.
What we do know is that Brosnahan will appear as the primary protagonist, Leila Reynolds, an attorney who has just landed her first murder case. Jumping right into the deep end, the case is incredibly high-profile and ties itself into Leila’s everyday life as she’ll be uncovering the truth about the murder of a beloved judge. Out of her depths, she attempts to back out of the gig, but the defendant is certain that she’s the woman for the job. As Leila uncovers more about the crime, she finds the case far more complex than it appears on the surface, drawing her into a storm of uncertainty, manipulation, and deceit as she pursues the truth.
Who Is Behind ‘Presumed Innocent’ Season 2?
In addition to the trio spotted in the first day of filming footage, Season 2 of Presumed Innocent boasts a standout ensemble that also includes Jack Reynor (Midsommar), Courtney B. Vance (The Preacher’s Wife), Lesley-Ann Brandt (Lucifer), Michael Hsu Rosen (Pretty Smart), and John Magaro (Orange Is the New Black). The series is the latest to hail from David E. Kelley, who knows how to craft the perfect thriller, as can be seen from his work behind Big Little Lies, Big Sky, and Goliath as well as favorites of yesteryear like Ally McBeal and Doogie Howser, M.D.
As of right now, no release date has been set for Season 2 of Presumed Innocent.
