‘IT’: Finn Wolfhard Confirms Involvement in New Project!!

After weeks of slow-burn dread, the Season 1 of IT: Welcome to Derry closer confirms one of the show’s most unsettling ideas: Pennywise knows the future, and he’s been acting with that knowledge all along. Not in a clean, sci-fi time-travel sense, but in a far more disturbing, cosmic-horror way that aligns perfectly with Stephen King lore.

In the episode’s final act, Pennywise directly reveals that Marge’s full name is Margaret Tozier, confirming that she will one day become the mother of Richie Tozier, a core member of the Losers’ Club from the IT films. Pennywise, the little scamp, taunts Marge with the implication that her survival (and Richie’s eventual birth) is already written.

The finale strongly implies that Pennywise experiences time non-linearly. He doesn’t just know who Marge becomes, and that Pennywise understands that the Losers’ Club will eventually kill him, and Richie is part of that future. The knowledge doesn’t stop him though. It enrages him. The finale also includes a brief but unmistakable cameo from Sophia Lillis, reprising her role as Beverly Marsh from Andy Muschietti’s IT films, which means… well, that remains to be seen.

Is Finn Wolfhard Making Another ‘IT’ Movie?

The finale arrives at an interesting moment for Finn Wolfhard, whose connection to the IT franchise continues to ripple outward following his appearance as Richie in the original movie. In a recent interview, Wolfhard reflected on how surreal it was navigating global fame at just fourteen years old, filming IT and Stranger Things Season 2 back-to-back while still wanting to feel like a normal kid — even if only for a day.

“No one can prepare anyone for it. It was incredibly exciting… but there was a period in my teenage years where it was just hard.”

Since IT, he’s directed his own film (Hell of a Summer), released a solo album (Happy Birthday), and built a reputation as a filmmaker-in-the-making with deep reverence for cinema history. So clearly, he’d be keen on expanding the lore of one of his earliest starring roles. Interestingly, Wolfhard also confirmed he knew years ago that his character’s legacy would echo into Welcome to Derry. And not just that, he’s going to be involved again in the future.

I knew that years ago, actually. When they first started thinking about that show, it was probably 2021. Barbara and Andy Muschietti both told me, “You’re involved.” Yeah, I’m connected. I think there’s something else that will come up eventually that I’m excited for people to see.”

IT: Welcome to Derry is streaming on HBO Max now.
