‘Sleeping Dogs’: ‘Nobody 2’ Director to Helm Simu Liu led Adaptation!!

Simu Liu burst onto the scene a few years ago with a gripping performance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but now he’s ready to headline a massive video game adaptation that just got an exciting update. Liu took to his personal X account to confirm that Timo Tjahjanto, best known for directing Bob Odenkirk’s hit action sequel, Nobody 2, has been tapped to direct the Sleeping Dogs movie. Tjahjanto is also the director of The Beekeeper 2, the action sequel that just wrapped filming earlier this year starring Jason Statham. No word yet on when the Sleeping Dogs movie will begin filming, or when it will be released.

Timo Tjahjanto first made a name for himself working on the V/H/S franchise, but it wasn’t until last year that his work on The Shadow Strays caught everyone’s eye. The Netflix original action movie premiered at TIFF and was an original selection from the film festival, and it also performed well on streaming. He took control of Nobody 2 earlier this year and delivered an action blockbuster worth of its predecessor, and he’s sure to do the same next year when The Beekeeper 2 hits theaters. Sleeping Dogs is in safe hands with Tjahjanto.

As for Liu, his breakout role may have come in 2021’s Shang-Chi, but he’s since starred in other blockbusters like Barbie that have helped put him on the map. He’s due to reprise his role as Shang-Chi next year in Avengers: Doomsday, the massive event film that will premiere in theaters on December 18. He’ll likely film Sleeping Dogs sometime between now and then, so 2026 will be busy for Liu between press and other commitments.

Shang-Chi Is Going To Look Different in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

During an interview to promote The Copenhagen Test, Liu confirmed that Shang-Chi will be sporting a new costume in Avengers: Doomsday. This isn’t all that surprising, considering it’s been a few years since fans have seen Shang-Chi, but it’s still exciting to know the fan-favorite hero is getting an upgrade. Liu’s status has not been confirmed for Secret Wars, but it will likely hinge on Shang-Chi surviving the events of the first film. Marvel has confirmed that Shang-Chi 2 is in the works, and with the film likely to come after Secret Wars, it wouldn’t make much sense for Shang-Chi to die in either film.
