‘The Mummy 4’: Brendan Fraser Breaks Silence on Role Reprisal Reports!!

After a period out of the spotlight, the 2020s have reminded the world of the talent of Brendan Fraser. From his Oscar-winning turn in The Whale to the recent release of Rental Family, Fraser‘s ‘Brennaissance’ has been well documented, as the world has kept a teary-eyed watch over the actor’s journey through personal struggles and back where he belongs. Now he looks set to return to his breakout role as an action star, with The Mummy confirmed to be returning for a fourth installment.

It has already been noted that both Fraser and Rachel Weisz were in talks to return as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell, with Radio Silence, the aliases for Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, set to direct. Looking to be a direct sequel to the first two films of the series, this fourth Mummy movie is sure to prove hugely popular with theatergoers, and, excitingly, Fraser has now broken his silence on a return. In a recent interview, the Academy Award winner said, “My lips are sealed! I’m hopeful to have good news soon because I know how popular the films were.” He continued, “People say ‘I grew up watching that movie and now I’ve got kids…’ Let’s all keep our fingers crossed and light a candle.” When asked if he would return, Fraser added:

“Would I like to? Absolutely. I’ve always said I like the idea and I always will. It’s just… Well, it’s not up to me to pull that trigger!”

‘The Mummy’ Was a Box Office Triumph

Directed by Stephen Sommers and starring John Hannah alongside Fraser and Weisz, 1999’s The Mummy faced tough competition during its theatrical run, still managing to prove a success. From a reported production budget of $80 million, the film returned an impressive global haul of $422 million, split between $157 million in domestic revenue and a huge overseas haul of $261 million. The sixth highest-grossing movie of 1999 worldwide, there is no doubting just how popular a return to this cult hit would be. A synopsis for The Mummy reads:

“The Mummy is a rousing, suspenseful and horrifying epic about an expedition of treasure-seeking explorers in the Sahara Desert in 1925. Stumbling upon an ancient tomb, the hunters unwittingly set loose a 3,000-year-old legacy of terror, which is embodied in the vengeful reincarnation of an Egyptian priest who had been sentenced to an eternity as one of the living dead.”

Brendan Fraser is ready to return to The Mummy.
