‘The Dreadful’: First Images Reunite ‘Game of Thrones’ Stars Kit Harington & Sophie Turner as Lovers!! Check It Out!!

Two members of Game of Thrones royalty are finally returning to the screen — just maybe not in a way you ever saw coming. Seven years after they took on the Night King’s army and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) together, Kit Harington and Sophie Turner are returning to the screen. But their reunion won’t be in any of the Game of Thrones offshoots like House of the Dragon or A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Instead, the pair — who previously played family members — will reunite as a couple in Natasha Kermani’s (Abraham’s Boys) The Dreadful. And now, after months of waiting, a batch of first-look images has been unleashed thanks to a new report.

The film, which is based on Kaneto Shindō’s 1964 film, Onibaba, is part historical epic and part horror as it follows a ghostly story centered around a woman struggling for survival in the 15th century. Turner stars as Anne, the character at the center of the film, who, alongside her mother-in-law, Morwen (Marcia Gay Harden), lives ostracized from the rest of the townspeople. The War of the Roses is raging throughout England, and after a man (Harington) from Anne’s past comes for a visit, the pair become entangled. But the winds didn’t just bring Anne’s forgotten lover, as they’ve also carried a curse that will forever change her life.

The set of three first-look images put Harington and Turner back in focus together, except this time, instead of going over war plans and trading brotherly and sisterly advice, they’re sitting close to one another and gazing into each other’s eyes. We see the pair on the beach and getting cozy on a blanket, foreshadowing the emotional connection and flame that they’ve carried for one another in the years since their separation.

What Sophie Turner Has Said About Her Reunion with Kit Harington

Although they may not have shared much screen time during their run on Game of Thrones until the later seasons, Turner and Harington developed a deep bond akin to the one their characters shared. In an interview with Collider’s Therese Lacson in support of her latest big-screen project, Carlson Young’s thriller, Trust, Turner said of the pair’s reunion:

“To work with Kit again was just such a joy because he’s been a constant in my life and a big brother to me my whole life. And so we were just thrilled to be able to hang out. Really, it was just a ploy to hang out with each other.”

As for the chilling story that unfolds during The Dreadful, Turner teased, “I would say it’s a bit like The Green Knight. It’s kind of supernatural and weird and really scary.”
