‘The Conjuring: First Communion’ Sets September 2027 Release Date!!

Despite last year’s blockbuster finale, The Conjuring franchise hasn’t said its last rites just yet. Warner Bros. announced upcoming release dates for a handful of its biggest titles, among which was a prequel to the James Wan-created horror universe. Titled The Conjuring: First Communion, it will mark the tenth installment in the long-running series of paranormal hauntings, premiering on September 10, 2027, just ahead of Halloween season. Atomic Monster and the Peter Safran Company will once again be behind the buzzy new chapter.

The announcement of a prequel film seemingly eliminates an option for the upcoming HBO Max series set in the Conjuring universe. It was rumored that the show could follow the Warrens in their younger years, and Last Rites even gave a preview of that possibility with Madison Lawlor and Orion Smith playing the youthful duo. Given that the films have always centered on Ed and Lorraine, though, it would make sense for First Communion to continue the trend and bring back the iconic duo before their other famed cases. Whatever the new installment does with the franchise, however, it’ll look to continue an over-decade-long run of spooky success for The Conjuring, with Last Rites marking a franchise high at the box office with over $494 million worldwide.

‘The Conjuring: First Communion’ Will Be at the Center of a Strong 2027 for Warner Bros.

In addition to further expanding a franchise that has brought audiences Annabelle and The Nun, Warner Bros. is gearing up for a big 2027 with its latest release dates. Before jumping into next year, though, the company revealed that J.J. Abrams‘ secretive sci-fi project The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, will touch down in theaters later this year on November 13 in IMAX. Kicking off the new 2027 flicks will be Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail‘s Julia Roberts-led effort Panic Carefully on February 26, followed by Tim Miller and Keanu Reeves‘ buzzy time-loop team-up Shiver on August 13. Coupled with James Gunn‘s Superman follow-up Man of Tomorrow on July 9 and Jared Hess‘ A Minecraft Movie sequel on July 23, everything’s lining up for next year to be another blockbuster outing for Warner Bros.
