If you’re looking for a Netflix comedy with some absolute legends in it, look no further than The Fifth Wheel. The new Netflix original film brings us Eva Longoria‘s second directorial feat with an all-star cast for the female-led comedy, written by Paula Pell and Janine Brito. The Fifth Wheel stars Kim Kardashian in the female-led comedy as a “hot outsider” to a group of friends challenging the high school besties on their trip to Las Vegas. After The Hangover, it is about time to let the girls have fun in Sin City, right? The rest of the cast includes Nikki Glaser, Fortune Feimster, Brenda Song, Jack Whitehall, Casey Wilson, and Scott MacArthur. We now have our first look at the movie with images from the first day of production on The Fifth Wheel.
Pell, Kardashian, and Longoria all serve as producers alongside Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell, Cris Abrego, and Alex Brown. Mary Bundy and David Hyman are executive producing. Pell and Brito wrote the film together as a married couple. The Fifth Wheel is described as follows:
“A group of best friends from high school attempt to reconnect during a weekend jaunt to Vegas. When a hot outsider (played by Kim Kardashian) crashes the weekend, they’re forced to face their messy lives, bad decisions, and unraveling friendships.”
Longoria made her directorial debut with the film Flamin’ Hot, the exploration of one man’s dream and successful creation of Hot Cheetos. The true story is decidedly different than jumping into a comedy like The Fifth Wheel seems to be, but it is exciting to see Longoria dive into something like this and with an all-star cast!
This Feels Like a Great Follow Up to Paula Pell’s Other Netflix Adventure
Pell also starred in the Amy Poehler-directed Netflix movie, Wine Country, which also centered on female friendship — but with the added bonus that fans of Saturday Night Live got to see their favorite women all together. Pell was a writer on the sketch show for years, and reunited with a rogues gallery of SNL alums Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Emily Spivey, Ana Gasteyer, and Rachel Dratch on Wine Country.
