‘God of War’: Alastair Duncan to Reprise Mimir Role in Prime Video Series!!

Prime Video has found Ryan Hurst‘s guide for its upcoming God of War series. Three more new cast members have been added to the hotly-anticipated video game adaptation, among which is another returning face from the 2018 reboot and its sequel — Alastair Duncan. Unlike Hurst, who originally played Thor in God of War: Ragnarök and is now embodying Kratos, Duncan will be the first cast member from the games to reprise his role, once again playing the smartest head alive, Mimir. Also coming aboard are Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka in the roles of the fan favorite Dwarven blacksmith brothers Brok and Sindri.

Mimir is an ever-present companion for the father-son duo of Kratos and Atreus, quite literally being tied to the former’s hip. Deemed “The Smartest Man in the World,” he was originally an advisor for Odin until the All-Father cast him into confinement within the trunk of a tree, where players find him in the 2018 game. To free him, Kratos severs his head and takes him to Freya to reanimate him, bringing him along on their journey to scatter the ashes of Kratos’s wife, Faye, atop the highest peak in the Nine Realms. After 109 years cut off from everything he loves or could nourish him, he’s eager to atone for working with the wicked Odin, serving as the witty, wise guide to the Ghost of Sparta throughout both games, with Duncan making him into one of the Norse-set story’s liveliest characters. The actor is perhaps best known for his work across the video game industry, most recently appearing in Hideo Kojima‘s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and notably voicing Celebrimbor in Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel, Shadow of War.

This will be yet another video game-adjacent series for Woodburn, who counts Netflix‘s The Witcher among his many credits, including Willow, Billions, Jingle All the Way, and Seinfeld. Gulka, meanwhile, is a sci-fi veteran known for past turns in The X-Files and Stargate SG-1. They’ll be playing polar opposites as Brok and Sindri, who have a contentious relationship in the games, to say the least. For players, Brok is the beloved weapons dealer with the mouth of a very creative sailor. A legendary blacksmith, he remains alienated from his community after helping craft the legendary Mjölnir with his brother, which Thor used to bring devastation across the realms. Sindri is the more neurotic of the two brothers, making for a clashing, entertaining pair of business partners who help Kratos and Atreus along their travels.

Who Else Is on Board for ‘God of War’?

The trio of Duncan, Woodburn, and Gulka joins a rapidly growing cast for Prime Video‘s high-priority adaptation. In addition to Hurst, God of War has already assembled a pantheon of gods who appeared in Ragnarök, including Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as his wife and the goddess of family, Sif, Max Parker as the Norse God of Foresight, Heimdall, and Mandy Patinkin as the All-Father himself, Odin. Still to be cast, however, is the young Atreus, though that should be coming soon with the series now moving full steam ahead under showrunner Ronald D. Moore. The series is already secured for two seasons at the streaming service, with Shōgun director Frederick E.O. Toye helming the first two episodes and Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios producing in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.

God of War is still building up to production.
