Season 3 of Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness, formerly titled Special Ops: Lioness, is getting closer to your screens as filming began last October. Although no premiere date has been reported yet, several casting updates have made the rounds, including, most recently, the addition of a Mayor of Kingstown star to the new season. Also from Sheridan, the Jeremy Renner-led crime thriller was only just renewed for a fifth and final season this month, days after its epic Season 4 finale.
Fans may recall that in Season 2 of Lioness, the CIA’s fight against terror moved closer to home. Joe, Kaitlyn (Nicole Kidman), and Byron (Michael Kelly) enlist a new Lioness operative to infiltrate a previously unknown threat. With pressure mounting from all sides, Joe was forced to confront the profound personal sacrifices she made as the leader of the Lioness program. Yellowstone‘s Ian Bohen has also been cast as a new series regular in the upcoming season.
‘Lioness’ Is Taylor Sheridan’s Highly Underrated Thriller
Despite strong viewership and a solid ensemble cast, Lioness is widely regarded as underrated compared to other Sheridan projects, apparently because it departs from the prolific creator’s typical Western themes. The series debuted on July 23, 2023, with Season 2 following on October 27, 2024. It is produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios exclusively for Paramount+ and is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
In addition to starring in the espionage series, Saldaña and Kidman executive-produce alongside Sheridan. The trio serves as EPs on Season 2 with David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Jill Wagner, David Lemanowicz, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, and Keith Cox. Lioness’ sophomore season also starred Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, Michael Kelly, Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Thad Luckinbill, and Hannah Love Lanier.
