‘Helldivers’: Jason Momoa to Star in Justin Lin’s Video Game Adaptation!!

Jason Momoa is about to dive for the glory of Super Earth. The Aquaman and recent The Wrecking Crew star has officially enlisted in Sony Pictures‘ and PlayStation Studios‘ upcoming adaptation of Arrowhead Game StudiosHelldivers video game franchise. The casting officially reunites him with Fast & Furious franchise alum Justin Lin, who will be directing the feature. Sony isn’t delaying in the spread of managed democracy either. With the news of Momoa‘s casting also came the announcement that the film will be dropping in theaters on November 10, 2027.

When news of a Helldivers movie first broke, Lin’s take was said to be more focused on the humanity behind the game rather than just the action of bug-squashing and Automaton-smashing. The game is multifaceted, filled with dark humor and propaganda glorifying dedication and sacrifice for Super Earth above all, and relying on the teamwork of four divers to ensure the enemies of democracy never succeed. The film will be the product of Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions‘ teamwork, marking their latest video game collaboration after the blockbuster Uncharted adaptation starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg and their small-screen successes, Twisted Metal and The Last of Us. Hutch Parker and Asad Qizilbash will join Lin as producers.

Jason Momoa Is Keeping Very Busy On Screen

Just like freedom never sleeps, neither does Momoa. Helldivers adds to an incredibly busy schedule for the star, who’s gearing up for a big year on-screen. After already taking over Prime Video with the very dad-coded hit The Wrecking Crew with Dave Bautista, he’s finally set to appear in the role of his dreams — as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo — when the DCU‘s Supergirl arrives on June 26. A trip back to Arrakis is also in order, as he’s set to return as Duncan Idaho, or at least, a genetically engineered clone of him, in the upcoming Dune: Part Three on December 18. Helldivers won’t even be his nearest video game adaptation, as he’ll take on the role of Blanka in Street Fighter, premiering on October 16. That’s all just the tip of the iceberg for him, too, with Animal Friends, Fast Forever, and a sequel to A Minecraft Movie also on the horizon.

Helldivers will land in theaters on November 10, 2027.
