Ryan Coogler has been making the rounds for his brilliant feature, Sinners, which has earned incredible buzz in the awards season. Starring his frequent collaborator Michael B Jordan, the movie has bagged Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards, and has been nominated in a record-breaking 16 categories for the upcoming Academy Awards. The feature that seamlessly blends vampire horror with soul music and supernatural evil was a massive hit commercially and critically.

Coogler has a solid track record with movies like Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, the Creed franchise, and now Sinners. So fans are very excited not only about his several wins but also about what comes next from the filmmaker who has given us some mind-bending narratives with hard-hitting themes (even in the superhero genre). The fan-favorite director has numerous interesting projects lined up, and among them is the highly-anticipated reboot of The X-Files.

The iconic sci-fi drama starring Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny is beloved for its thrilling “monster of the week” format and its overarching alien lore. With Coogler’s involvement, the bar is high as the audience is excited to see his vision on screen. While there hasn’t been an update on the project for some time, Coogler recently shared an update on his script. “I’m in deep now. Today’s a good day,” he said of writing. “Been a lot of days that weren’t so good.” He further shared the anxiety of finishing the draft and that Vince Gilligan, who was an executive producer on the original series, had given him some tips.

“There are times when I wish that I could separate and have a day where I’m not anxious about having to deliver the draft. Vince gave me a couple hours of advice over Zoom and answered all the questions I had — I’ve got them all in my notebook, and I go back to it often,”

What to Expect From Ryan Coogler’s ‘X-Files’ Reboot?

Horror for sure! While not many details about the reboot are known, Coogler previously shared that some episodes will turn out really scary. “I’m working on X-Files, bro. That’s what’s immediately next. I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f***ing scary. We’re gonna try to make something really great, bro, and really be something for the real X-Files fans, and maybe find some new ones.”

Meanwhile, Sinners is streaming on HBO Max.
