‘Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen’: New Duffer Brothers-Produced Netflix Series Unveils First Teaser!! Check It Out!!

Now that the battle with Vecna is over and Stranger Things has closed its final chapter, series creators Matt and Ross Duffer have a bit more freedom to chart a new course. They’re still involved in expanding the world around Hawkins, Indiana, with the Tales From ’85 animated series nearing release with a new story set between Seasons 2 and 3, and other potential spin-offs, but the duo is starting to look elsewhere for new stories. This coming April will see an especially big shift with the beginning of their massive new four-year exclusive deal at Paramount, though they still have something very bad coming at Netflix. Specifically, they’re attached as executive producers on a new horror miniseries titled Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.

Created, written, and showrun by Haley Z. Boston, who also has writing credits on Brand New Cherry Flavor and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, the series unfolds over a week as Rachel (Camila Morrone) and Nicky (Adam DiMarco) prepare for their dream wedding. They head for Nicky’s family’s secluded vacation home for the intimate ceremony, and all initially seems well, except, well, the title says it all. The bride-to-be can’t shake the feeling of dread that something terrible will befall the couple, and a few eerie coincidences and terrifying surprises don’t help her paranoia. Boston has described its tone as something between Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby, with a bit of humor and absurdity that unfolds as Rachel frets over whether she’s committed to the right person. Ahead of the premiere in March, Netflix has now released the first teaser, but it leans far more into the horror of the situation.

‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’ Trailer Gets Eerie With Apologies

The footage opens slowly, capturing the anxieties of Rachel’s big day as she approaches the altar in her wedding dress. It gets particularly eerie, however, with every utterance of the phrase “I’m sorry.” Throughout the trailer, the apology is said with increasing urgency and despair as everything slowly descends into chaos. In between the bride’s steady walk down the aisle next to friends and family, who are quite literally frozen in time, are flashes of a more sinister force at play that may be supernatural, the result of black magic by Nicky’s family, or just part of Rachel’s penchant for superstition. Either way, she gets plenty of horrifying indications that marrying Nicky is a big mistake. Everything culminates with a violent scene and one final, bloodcurdling scream, before she’s asked if her husband is indeed the one.

The Duffers are executive producing Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen through their Upside Down Productions banner, joining Hilary Leavitt and Andrea Sperling. Alongside the Daisy Jones & The Six alum, Morrone, and Overcompensating star DiMarco will be Jeff Wilbusch, Karla Crome, Gus Birney, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ted Levine, and Sawyer Fraser. Directorial duties were split up between fellow executive producer Weronika Tofilska, Mayfair Witches episode helmer Axelle Carolyn, and Killing Eve director Lisa Brühlmann.

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen arrives on Netflix on March 26. Check out the teaser trailer in the player above.
