Ethan Hawke has yet to take home an Oscar in his career thus far, but it certainly hasn’t been for a lack of trying. He’s been nominated five times in his career, dating back to his first nod for his work in Training Day, which many would argue is still his most famous. He later earned nominations for his performances in Before Sunset, Before Midnight, Boyhood, and most recently, Blue Moon. Hawke is one of the contenders for Best Lead Actor, alongside Timothée Chalamet, Michael B. Jordan, Wagner Moura, and more. Blue Moon is a musical biopic directed by Richard Linklater that’s currently streaming on Netflix.
However, Blue Moon wasn’t the only big role to come out of 2025 for Ethan Hawke. He also teamed up with FX for his hit new thriller series, The Lowdown, which follows a determined bookstore owner who moonlights as an investigative journalist in the small town of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The series has been compared to Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King, largely due to it being set in the same place. The Lowdown began streaming on Hulu in America and Disney+ globally last September, and it wrapped up its first season in November before earning a Season 2 renewal in the weeks following the finale.
Updates on The Lowdown Season 2 have been relatively quiet for a while now, until this afternoon. Tommy Lee Jones is officially joining the cast of The Lowdown Season 2, but it’s unclear at this time who he’ll be playing. This will be Jones’ first acting role since 2023, when he teamed up with Jamie Foxx for the Prime Video original movie, The Burial. It will also be his first scripted TV role in almost 40 years.
