After nearly seven years of waiting, only three months remain until the return of Pixar‘s favorite playthings with Toy Story 5. Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), and the rest of Bonnie’s toys will be back once again on June 19 to finally take on one of the greatest threats to playtime ever conceived — technology. All the marketing for the sequel so far has been largely centered around Past Lives star Greta Lee‘s villainous new tablet, LilyPad, who makes the toys’ jobs all the more difficult as an all-in-one entertainment machine hogging all of Bonnie’s time. With Joan Cusack‘s Jessie now in charge following Woody and Bo Peep’s (Annie Potts) departure, this will be her fight to lead, but she appears to have met her match against such an advanced foe.
The trailer teased that the problem facing Jessie and the gang isn’t contained to Bonnie’s bedroom, but a threat to all of toy kind across the globe. Toy Story 5 is tackling an all-too-common issue in the modern world, where too much screen time is affecting children’s lives for the worse. It not only requires Woody to return and lend a hand to his old pals, but an entire army of Buzz Lightyears to fight back against the all-powerful menace. However, it all begins with the more personal battle to save Bonnie. A new sneak peek has now been shared online that properly pits Jessie against LilyPad as the former tries and fails to lay down the law.
In the clip, Jessie marches up to the bed surrounded by her fellow toys to have a word with the tablet that’s been causing them so many problems. Although Buzz advises her to stay calm, she certainly doesn’t appear so when hucking Bullseye up atop the sheets, and Lily startling her from sleep mode certainly doesn’t help matters. She makes it clear that Lily’s presence is derailing the toys’ work to help Bonnie branch out and make friends, an impassioned speech that the tablet just ignores while scrolling through the appropriately-named Reddit stand-in Ribbit. This rude tablet swears she was listening when Jessie calls her out, proving, scarily, that she’s always listening by playing back all of Jessie’s words in English, Spanish, and in an oddly catchy rap that even gets the other toys grooving. It’s a showcase of her power and her lack of care, so long as she’s the star of the show that gets to fill Bonnie’s every spare moment.
‘Toy Story 5’ Introduces Some Fresh Voices to Playtime
Toy Story 5 continues Lee‘s meteoric rise post-Past Lives, marking her latest collaboration with the House of Mouse after starring in last year’s Tron: Ares. 2025 was a big year overall for the actress, who also appeared in Season 4 of The Morning Show, A House of Dynamite, and The Studio. She wasn’t the only new addition to Andrew Stanton‘s Pixar sequel, though. Conan O’Brien, fresh off hosting the Oscars, joins the series as Smarty Pants, alongside other tech-based toys played by Craig Robinson and Shelby Rabara. Ghostbusters legend Ernie Hudson also lends his voice in place of the late Carl Weathers as Combat Carl.
Toy Story 5 premieres in theaters on June 19. Check out the new sneak peek above.
