‘Nobody 3’: Bob Odenkirk Officially Breaks Silence on Franchise’s Future!!

Action movies have universal appeal, similar to the jump-scare in horror movies; witnessing the bad guys’ bloodied and bruised bodies gives ultimate satisfaction to the audience. Often, fans love to see a cool, calm, collected protagonist transforming into a killing machine when the push comes to shove, like John Wick, The Beekeeper, The Accountant, The Fall Guy, or Taken. All these movies enjoy universal love and appreciation for the same reason. In recent years, as fantasy, horror, and dystopian genres have taken better hold of the audience, a good action flick doesn’t come around that often, and among them is Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody.

Directed by Ilya Naishuller and written by John Wick’s Derek Kolstad, Nobody was an instant hit with fans. We follow Hutch (Odenkirk), a seemingly everyday man, who reverts to his violent past after a home invasion, eventually taking on a Russian crime lord. In a post-pandemic world, it was a commercial success, grossing $57.5 million against a $16 million budget. The movie’s deadpan humor and slick action garnered it an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and another 94% from the fans, which led to a sequel.

Nobody 2 expanded Hutch’s world as we see more integration of his family into the story; they take a much-needed family vacation to the small tourist town of Plummerville. However, Hutch soon finds himself in the crosshairs of a bloodthirsty crime boss. The Timo Tjahjanto-directed movie received mixed reviews and garnered a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes owing to its formulaic feel. Further, it made $41 million at the box office, not even reaching a break-even point, which has jeopardized hopes for a third film.

Will There Be a ‘Nobody 3’?

But Odenkirk, who has ideas for possible future installments, isn’t giving up. He recently reaffirmed to ScreenRant that “I do have ideas” for two more sequels; however, he admitted, “I don’t know that I’ll get to do it,” as he’s waiting for an answer from Universal Pictures. Nonetheless, he added, he’ll “do what they want” to make another movie, further teasing a darker idea:

“But people liked Nobody 2 a lot, it made a lot of people happy. I tried to present a more — well, Timo Tjahjanto made it very bloody. [Chuckles] But I wanted to lean in the direction of Jackie Chan, so we had the duck boat fight…but it could go really dark, is one thought I have. Like, the darkest, violent film you’ve ever seen or thought. But then they might say, ‘Don’t do that to your audience, there’s so many people who are enjoying Nobody in a wider context.’”

Meanwhile, the Nobody franchise is available on Prime Video.
