For a long time now, Ryan Gosling and Ghost Rider have felt like one of those Marvel pairings that just refuses to go away. Every few months, the rumors flare up again, fans start casting the whole thing in their heads, and the idea somehow keeps sounding more believable. Now Gosling has finally addressed the latest round of speculation himself, and while he did not confirm anything, he also definitely did not shut it down.

In a new interview with Josh Horowitz, Gosling was asked directly about the rumors that he could be lined up to play the Spirit of Vengeance in the MCU. His response was careful, but still enough to keep the conversation going. “I don’t know what to say. We keep hope alive,” Gosling said. He then added, “Some discussions have been had. It’s a complicated situation.”

Gosling is a busy man at the moment in any case. Not just promoting his upcoming sci-fi epic, Project Hail Mary, but also with his role in the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter. So no, Gosling did not announce he is Ghost Rider. But he did confirm that conversations have happened, and that is more than Marvel fans usually get, right?

Will Ryan Gosling Be Ghost Rider?

That is the strongest public update yet on the idea of Gosling joining Marvel as Ghost Rider. Back in 2022, Gosling openly said Ghost Rider was the superhero he most wanted to play, and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige responded enthusiastically. “Ryan’s amazing,” Feige said at the time. “I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU.”

Ghost Rider hasn’t made an appearance in a Marvel movie since 2012’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, which had Nicolas Cage on the back of the hellfire motorbike as Johnny Blaze. Meanwhile, the Robbie Reyes version of the character was later played by Gabriel Luna in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but given how that series has been dealt with over the years, it’s safe to say Marvel Studios has not yet officially introduced a Ghost Rider into the main MCU film saga.​​​​​​​
