‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ Renewed for Season 19 & 20!!

It’s been almost a year since the Season 18 finale of Criminal Minds, which is now operating under the new title, Criminal Minds: Evolution, was released. It was something of a divisive conclusion to the latest season, according to Collider critic Megan Vick, who recapped each new episode of the show as they debuted last year. Regarding her thoughts about the Season 18 finale, while she praised the flow of the episode for “feeling like a movie that kept you on your toes” and also said, “The BAU can finally move on from the network and tackle new cases,” she did have some criticisms. She says that, “There was a lot of lore about a character fans didn’t really care about until the finale,” and that “We’re just not sure where Criminal Minds: Evolution goes without the network.”

It took CBS some time to figure out where Criminal Minds was going, but this afternoon, the network finally came to a decision. Paramount has announced that Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 19 will officially return to streaming on May 28, with new guest stars including Connor Storrie, Justin Kirk, Yvette Nicole Brown, Clarke Gregg, Jeri Ryan, and more. But, this isn’t the most exciting announcement to come today. The network also confirmed that Criminal Minds: Evolution has been renewed for Season 20, which is expected to arrive around the same time next year. Criminal Minds is one of the longest-running cop dramas on TV, and it sounds like the show isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Eric Messer, who also worked on the Criminal Minds offshoot series, Beyond Borders, serves as the showrunner for Criminal Minds: Evolution.

What Does This Mean for the Future of ‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’?

Paramount renewing Criminal Minds for a 20th season and also confirming the official release date for Season 19 is exciting news for fans. Those who have been watching Criminal Minds since it first arrived back in 2005 aren’t used to having to wait for new seasons, and although there’s been a downpour of new arrivals to come in the last year, it bodes well for the future of the show that it’s still given top priority. Criminal Minds could run for another 20 seasons and it likely wouldn’t surprise anyone.
