Over the past few years, Prime Video has quietly become one of the world’s largest streaming services. While its subscriber numbers may not hold a candle to Netflix, Prime Video has developed some of the most popular original TV shows in the streaming era, including Reacher (starring Alan Ritchson), and Bosch (starring Titus Welliver). The latter arrived on the platform in 2014 and ran for seven seasons before going off the air in 2021. Prime Video brought back Welliver for a sequel series, Bosch: Legacy, only one year later, though, and the demand for more Bosch is higher than ever. The first season of another Bosch spin-off, Ballard, has already wrapped up before the second arrives soon, and Prime Video is also developing a new Bosch prequel series starring Cameron Monaghan as the titular cop.
Even though more Bosch shows are on the way, Prime Video created a hole that can only be filled by more cop dramas/police procedurals. The streamer is positioning Bishop as its next big detective thriller to take the crown from Bosch, and the show continues to build out its ensemble with more cast members by the week. Just yesterday, it was announced that Xavier Samuel is the latest to join the cast of Bishop — he will play Anthony ‘Ant’ Graves, the younger brother of Bishop Graves, who will be played by Joel Kinnaman. Other cast members include John Malkovich, who will play Lincoln Graves, the father of Bishop and Anthony, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Jillian Graves, Bishop’s aunt, and Jordana Brewster as Kat Claiborne, a fellow detective at the San Francisco Police Department.
What Is ‘Bishop’ About?
Bishop follows a hardened but methodical homicide detective for the San Francisco Police Department, Bishop Graves, who finds himself as the lead investigator on the hunt for a serial killer targeting the upper class in the city. The more time Bishop spends investigating these murders, the more strings he finds to tie everything back to his father, complicating the investigation and their relationship. The show will serve as the perfect replacement for Bosch, but it will also scratch the itch of Dexter fans who are looking for another serial killer thriller. Bishop is being written and created for television by Little Marvin and Tony Saltzman.
