Two years after it was first announced, Kristen Stewart‘s return to the vampire horror genre just took a big step forward; and don’t worry, because these vampires do not sound particularly sparkly. Flesh of the Gods, which will be Panos Cosmatos‘ follow-up to his breakout horror hit Mandy, just added an Oscar-nominee to its cast, and signed on with a big American distributor. The film has not yet set a release date.

According to reports, Flesh of the Gods will now star Wagner Moura, who recently became the first-ever Brazilian Best Actor Oscar nominee for his performance in The Secret Agent. He replaces Oscar Isaac, who had to leave the film over scheduling concerns. The film has also been acquired by A24 for distribution in the United States. The 1980s-set film will star Stewart and Moura as a wealthy Los Angeles couple who find themselves in a nightmarish underground world of hedonism, decadence, and horror.

What Is Kristen Stewart Working On Lately?

Stewart recently made her feature directorial debut with The Chronology of Water, which she also wrote and produced. Based on the 2011 memoirs of Lidia Yuknavitch, the film stars Imogen Poots as a young woman who pursues a swimming scholarship, only to struggle with overcoming her abusive past. Next up for Stewart is a considerably lighter project, in the form of The Wrong Girls, which will be directed by Stewart‘s wife Dylan Meyer. Stewart, who also co-wrote the script with Meyer, stars with Alia Shawkat in the stoner comedy. Stewart has also signed on to star in the Prime Video miniseries The Challenger, her first major TV role. She’ll star as Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, as she embarks on a historic space mission, explores her own sexuality, and helps investigate the explosive demise of the Space Shuttle Challenger.

Cosmatos is the son of late director George P. Cosmatos (Tombstone), and made his feature debut with the surreal chiller Beyond the Black Rainbow. Flesh of the Gods will be penned by Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en), from a story by Cosmatos and Walker.

Flesh of the Gods is in development; no release date has yet been announced.
