‘Peaky Blinders’: Jamie Bell Takes Over Barry Keoghan Role in New Prequel Series!!

The last few weeks have been a great time to be a fan of Peaky Blinders. Four years after the original series aired its final episode on Netflix, Peaky Blinders returned with an explosive sequel movie set during World War II. Not only did the film bring back Cillian Murphy to play Tommy Shelby, but it also recruited other major stars like Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, and Tim Roth. It earned strong reviews from critics and audiences, and it remains comfortably at the top of Netflix‘s streaming charts. It’s been known for a while that Netflix is developing a Peaky Blinders sequel series, but details about the project have been kept under wraps, until today.

This afternoon, Netflix officially announced its new two-part Peaky Blinders sequel series, which is being written by original creator Steven Knight. The show has cast Jamie Bell in the lead role of Duke Shelby, taking over the role from Barry Keoghan. Stranger Things veteran Charlie Heaton will also star alongside Bell in the series, with other cast members including Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and Lucy Karczewski. The official synopsis for the show reads as follows:

“In this new era of Peaky Blinders, a decade after World War Two, the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy. At its blood-soaked heart is Duke Shelby (Jamie Bell): older, wiser, more ambitious, and most certainly more dangerous.”

Netflix has even released the first official image of Bell as Duke Shelby in the show, which is now in production. It will be set roughly 10 years after the events of The Immortal Man. Collider was one of the first to report the involvement of No Time to Die star Lashana Lynch.

What Does This Mean for the Future of ‘Peaky Blinders’?

Netflix announced The Immortal Man not all that long after the final season of Peaky Blinders was over. It’s now been less than a month since the film arrived on Netflix, but we already have an idea about where the story of the Peaky Blinders is going. For the better part of the last 15 years, there has always been new Peaky Blinders content to watch or look forward to. It’s become one of Netflix’s biggest properties, one that likely isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
