‘She-Hulk’: Marvel Producer Confirms Series Was One of Disney+’s Best-Performer Despite Divisive Response!!

Ever since the release of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios has been busy releasing numerous Disney+ exclusive shows, some of which have become hits and others that have become misses. Sure, some titles were highly praised by many, such as WandaVision, but others were heavily criticized. Not to mention, some of these shows have yet to connect to the movies. But one Marvel title on Disney+ was heavily criticized more than others, and the power of hate-watching proved beneficial for this show’s stats.

Since Phase 4, Marvel has released over 10 original series featuring new and returning characters in its cinematic universe. Some of these shows play a role in the films, while others open the door to future storytelling. But there is one show that Marvel released that was heavily criticized, to the point where it’s the lowest-rated series in the MCU‘s Disney+ lineup so far, yet it’s also the platform’s best-performing show.

Marvel Studios‘ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, appeared on The Escape Pod podcast and said he wished he could make more She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episodes. When he was asked whether Season 2 would not happen because of “the audience,” he revealed the show is one of the “best performing shows” on Disney+:

“I mean, I’ll tell you this about She-Hulk. That’s one of our best-performing shows. It just hit the general audience. So like, there was like a mismatch.”

What’s ‘She-Hulk: Attorney At Law’ About?

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was a 9-episode miniseries that stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, a lawyer and Bruce Banner’s (Mark Ruffalo) cousin. After a car accident with her cousin, in which her blood was contaminated with Banner’s, she gains the Hulk’s powers, becoming She-Hulk. The series follows Jennifer as she faces multiple superhero-related lawsuits after being hired as the head of a superhuman law division. But being She-Hulk isn’t easy, as there’s someone not only after her powers but also out to humiliate her. It also featured some fourth-wall-breaking moments akin to characters like Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds). While She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was well received by critics, earning an 80% critic score, audience reactions were far less positive, with a low 32% audience score. The series also marked the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil. Although his character becomes a romantic interest for She-Hulk, the showrunners of Daredevil: Born Again have indicated they do not plan to carry over those events in the new series.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is available to stream on Disney+.
