It’s a great time to be a fan of Marvel content right now, with new episodes of Daredevil: Born Again arriving every week and several big movies and shows confirmed to premiere before the end of the year. The first season of Daredevil: Born Again arrived last year around this time, and although many studios take years to deliver new seasons of TV, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returned as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk last month. One aspect of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 that had fans particularly floored was the return of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, who has quietly become one of Marvel’s biggest fan-favorite characters. It has tragically been confirmed that Bernthal will not return to star in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, which is now streaming on Disney+.
Just because The Punisher isn’t around in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 doesn’t mean he won’t have a role to play in the ongoing war ravaging the streets of New York, though. Marvel confirmed last year that it was developing a Punisher special to be released on Disney+ around the same time as Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and Bernthal took to his personal Instagram last month to confirm this news, even sharing the first look at the show. Marvel Studios has already set The Punisher special, titled One Last Kill, for release on Disney+ on May 12, and this afternoon, the studio finally released the first official trailer for the project. Plot specifics about the project are still being kept under wraps for now, but the trailer does confirm the return of Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle, even if it is just in visions.
Marvel Has Big Plans for The Punisher
Even after Bernthal’s Punisher vanishes following his Special Presentation on Disney+ next month, fans don’t have to wait long to see him again. Bernthal will star opposite Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will be released in theaters this summer on July 31. Bernthal isn’t the first member of the Defenders to team up with Spider-Man — Charlie Cox made his MCU debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. Though it does seem The Punisher will have a bigger role in the 2026 Spider-Man film than Cox did in 2021.
