Bradley Cooper Confirmed to Direct & Star in Margot Robbie’s ‘Ocean’s’ Prequel!!

Margot Robbie‘s long-gestating Ocean’s Eleven prequel has looked like a gamble for a number of years, but now, the return of one of the best heist franchises of all time is now officially confirmed. During their presentation at CinemaCon 2026, Warner Bros Officially confirmed that not only will Robbie‘s new film release on June 25, 2027, but it also has a new writer and director. Bradley Cooper, the actor-turned-director coming off the heels of several critically acclaimed hits, will officially write and direct this bold new chapter in the Ocean family saga. Cooper replaces Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung, who dropped out of the project last month.

The Ocean’s franchise has remained dormant for quite some time. A remake of the Rat Pack movie starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sam Davis Jr., the original 2001 Ocean’s Eleven movie saw Danny Ocean (George Clooney), Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt), and a ragtag group of thieves as they plot to rob a Las Vegas casino owned by a vindictive millionaire. The film grossed $450 million on a $85 million budget and led to two direct sequels, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen. The franchise also returned in 2018 with the female-ensemble-led spin-off Ocean’s Eight, where Sandra Bullock plays Danny Ocean’s sister after the original franchise protagonist is declared dead (though the movie strongly implies Danny may have faked his death). Plot details for Margot Robbie‘s prequel are still under wraps, but rumor has it she’ll play another member of the Ocean family.

‘Ocean’s 14’ Is Also on the Way

In addition to Robbie‘s now-confirmed prequel movie, rumors of Danny Ocean’s death were seemingly debunked for good when George Clooney himself announced that a proper sequel is happening with Ocean’s Fourteen. The sequel didn’t get any official updates at CinemaCon this year, but Clooney announced late last year that the sequel could start filming as early as the end of 2026, even hinting that it will bring back other franchise stars like Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, and Don Cheadle. An official cast has yet to be confirmed, but fellow franchise alum Andy Garcia (who plays series villain Terry Benedict) also confirmed to Collider that rumors of Ocean’s Fourteen are “More than a whisper.”

Margot Robbie‘s untitled Ocean’s Eleven prequel premieres in theaters on June 25, 2027.
