Thanks to an incredible streak of great shows that has helped them become the must-watch streamer of 2026, Apple TV‘s reputation is seemingly squeaky clean. Not afraid to give lesser-spotted names a voice in a crowded market, and happily championing important shows such as Tehran and Margo’s Got Money Troubles, you’d be forgiven for thinking the streamer could do nothing wrong. However, in 2025, they made the frustrating, albeit difficult, decision to delay the release of The Savant just three days before its premiere, in the wake of the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
This was a move criticized by many, including star Jessica Chastain, who said she was “not aligned on the decision to pause the release.” In Apple TV‘s statement, a spokesperson said, “After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.” However, this “future” was put in doubt with Chastain‘s quick response, with many worrying that The Savant may never see the light of day. In her final statement, Chastain said she will “let you know when and if The Savant is released.”
Well, true to her word, she seems to have set the record straight in a new interview, with Chastain confirming that The Savant is on its way soon. “Before it was like, ‘I don’t know if we’re going to see it,’ but now I can say, ‘We’re going to see it.'” Chastain said, with the same article revealing that sources say Apple is planning for a July release for the delayed series.
What is ‘The Savant’ About?
A timely story that is sure to grab attention in a polarized world, The Savant follows “an undercover investigator known as The Savant” who “balances life at home with tracking online hate groups to stop domestic extremists before they act,” according to a logline. Inspired by a true-life story titled “Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?,” this series deals with themes and plot points that are eerily similar to the aforementioned assassination of the divisive Kirk, leading to Apple TV‘s indefinite postponement of the premiere. However, it is these exact similarities that would’ve made a steadfast release from Apple, despite the noise, all the more powerful. Hopefully, its arrival this summer won’t prove any less impactful.
