‘Gen V’ Cancelled After Two Seasons!!

The Boys first premiered back in 2019, and while the show started with a somewhat small audience during its first season, it’s become one of Prime Video’s flagship properties since its debut. Not only has The Boys entered the upper echelon as one of the most popular superhero shows ever, but it’s also become one of the most popular TV shows, period, during the time it’s been on the air. The Boys Season 5 just premiered a few weeks ago, and while fans would love to see this story go on for years, creator Eric Kripke has confirmed that it will serve as the final season. Only four episodes are remaining to see how the story is going to end for long-time characters like Billy Butcher (played by Karl Urban) and Homelander (played by Antony Starr).

The Boys has become popular enough to receive not one, but two spin-offs. The first to hit the air back in 2023 was Gen V, which was set in The Boys universe and even featured some flagship characters, but the show primarily told a younger story at GodU, aka Godolkin University, a school for young supes learning to navigate the world. The second season of Gen V leaned more into The Boys overall narrative with the addition of the supe-killing virus, but the Gen V Season 2 plot has yet to have much impact on The Boys’ final season beyond that. It seems there may have been a reason for this, too. This afternoon, Prime Video announced that Gen V has been canceled after only two seasons. The show will not return, and the future of the characters is lying in limbo.

When Does ‘Vought Rising’ Come Out?

The other The Boys spin-off that’s been in the works at Prime Video for a while now is Vought Rising, the prequel series set years before the events of The Boys, showing Vought’s rise to power back in the 1940s and 1950s. The series will feature Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Stormfront/Liberty in leading roles, along with new supes from another era. Amid the report of Gen V’s cancellation came the news that Vought Rising will be released on Prime Video in 2027. An official date is unclear at this time and likely won’t be announced until later this year.
