Netflix sets release date for The Witness, releases trailer

Netflix has set a June 4, 2026, global release date for its upcoming limited series The Witness and unveiled the first trailer, offering an initial look at the project. The platform also confirmed that a companion documentary, The Murder of Rachel Nickell, will launch on the same day, showcasing a factual account along with the dramatized series.

Originally introduced during the Next on Netflix UK showcase in 2024, the series initially targeted for a 2025 release. Now, the newly released trailer, unveiled on April 28, 2026, offers the first detailed look at the project, highlighting emotional aftermath of a real-life tragedy.

Set in 1992, the series is based on the murder of Rachel Nickell on Wimbledon Common in London. Rather than focusing solely on the investigation, the project follows André Hanscombe and his young son Alex, who witnessed the incident.

The story examines how André navigates sudden single parenthood while dealing with intense media attention and the pressures of an ongoing police inquiry. Amid these challenges, his primary focus remains on protecting his young son and helping him cope with the trauma.

Created and written by Rob Williams, the series is directed by Alex Winckler and produced by Alison Sterling. Jordan Bolger leads the cast as André Hanscombe, with Max Fincham portraying Alex. Supporting roles include James Bradshaw as DCI Tony, Nash James Dryden as DC Paul Miller, and Kevin Eldon as DCI Mick Wickerson among others.
