It’s almost time to say “Yes, Chef!” for the last time. Back in March, it was officially confirmed that The Bear would be turning the stoves off after the upcoming fifth and now final season, bringing an end to one of Hulu and FX’s defining “comedies” of the decade. Coming off an explosive fourth season defined by Carmy’s (Jeremy Allen White) fateful decision, expectations are high for how the 21-time Emmy-winning juggernaut will bring the fine-dining chef-turned restaurateur’s story to a close, along with that of his family and employees. Now, the date has officially been set for the final service.
Hulu announced that The Bear Season 5 will officially debut on June 25 at 9 p.m. ET, just under two months away. All eight episodes will be available on the platform on that date domestically, as well as on Disney+ internationally. FX, meanwhile, will kick things off with the first two episodes broadcasting on that date, followed by new episodes weekly. The news comes just one day after the streamer and network set the table for the titular restaurant’s final service with a surprise special prequel episode titled “Gary,” penned by Jon Bernthal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach and sending late brother Mikey and cousin Richie on a trip to Gary, Indiana.
“Gary” proved to be a nice appetizer in preparation for what’s expected to be a heavy and bittersweet final run for Christopher Storer‘s acclaimed drama. The Bear Season 4 ended on a major cliffhanger, with the entire finale focusing on the fallout of Carmy deciding to leave the restaurant and reworking the partnership agreement to hand the operation to Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) in a final acknowledgment of how she’s surpassed him as a chef. Fortunately, she’s not entirely alone. Season 5 will pick up in the morning after the climactic decision as Sydney, Richie, and Sugar (Abby Elliott) continue to process Carmy leaving the food industry and face the tumultuous road ahead of them.
‘The Bear’s Final Shift Will Feature the Same Staff
In addition to White, Moss-Bachrach, Edebiri, and Elliott, The Bear Season 5 will bring back the rest of the restaurant’s main faces, including Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Matty Matheson. Recurring once again will be the also returning Ricky Staffieri, Oliver Platt, Will Poulter, and Jamie Lee Curtis. At this time, no new cast members have been announced, but the series has had a penchant for bringing in a few big names for guest appearances, like the late-great Rob Reiner last year or Bob Odenkirk. Executive producers alongside Storer include Mattheson, Josh Senior, Cooper Wehde, Tyson Bidner, Hiro Murai, and Rene Gube.
The Bear Season 5 premieres on June 25 on Hulu and FX.
