‘Bridgerton’: Netflix Confirms 2027 As Official Release Window for Season 5!!

Since the end of Season 4 earlier this year, Bridgerton has been moving quickly towards opening the next chapter in the titular family’s sweeping romance. In March, production officially got underway as it was confirmed that Julia Quinn‘s sixth novel in the series, When He Was Wicked, was next in line to be brought to life. The announcement also came with a first-look teaser, marking the beginning of the love story between Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). All expectations were that, if the series kept its usual cadence, new episodes would arrive sometime in 2028. At Netflix‘s upfront presentation on Wednesday, however, the streamer delivered a bit of news that’s bound to shock everyone at the Ton.

Bridgerton is officially breaking its two-year release schedule and dropping Season 5 in 2027. The announcement was made by Netflix‘s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, who said at the event that the megahit regency series “will return next year with Season 5.” It’s a first for the romantic adaptation, overcoming what has been a tradition since the first season enchanted viewers in 2020. What’s different this time around is that Season 5 has had the quickest production turnaround yet, starting work mere weeks after the second half of Season 4 bowed on Netflix. An exact release date will be revealed at a later time, though it’s fair to guess that new episodes will land towards the tail end of the year.

In Season 5, the spotlight will turn to Francesca just two years after losing her beloved husband, John Stirling (Victor Alli), to a brain aneurysm. Initially facing life as a young widow, the introverted daughter decides to re-enter the marriage mart more for the sake of practicality. Enter Michaela, John’s cousin, who, upon returning to manage the Kilmartin estate, completely challenges what Francesca is looking for in her next betrothed. She finds herself stuck between the pragmatic option and following her heart as she explores her complicated feelings for Michaela while they continue to blossom. Tega Alexander, Gemma Knight Jones, and Jacqueline Boatswain lead the new additions to the cast this time around.

‘Bridgerton’ Season 5 Will Look to Keep the Sweeping Romance Rolling

Four seasons in, the Shonda Rhimes-produced series has continued to have complete domination over Netflix. Season 4, centering on the whirlwind romance between Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), again ruled over the platform’s charts following its release, debuting Part 1 to a staggering 39.7 million views before racking up an additional 28 million in the immediate aftermath of Part 2. Despite slightly cooler reviews overall as the series delved into its darkest corners yet, there is still plenty of steam left behind Bridgerton after following Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley), and Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page). The series is also already confirmed for Season 6.
