‘Caine’: New ‘John Wick’ Spin Off Adds Dacre Montgomery!!

There isn’t a single pure action franchise in the world to emerge in the last few years that has been as successful as John Wick. The first John Wick movie arrived all the way back in 2014, not relying on anything other than the somewhat unreliable stardom of Keanu Reeves at the time and a stuntman eager to make a name for himself as a director in Chad Stahelski. If not for Eva Longoria, who invested the last bit of money the film needed to help get it across the finish line, the John Wick franchise likely wouldn’t even exist today, at least not in the same capacity that it does. As more John Wick films came out, more stars joined the franchise, and the action and stories became more ambitious, leading to a smash hit like John Wick: Chapter 4, which grossed nearly half a billion dollars at the box office.

The first John Wick spin-off movie, Ballerina, arrived last year, but the film was unable to turn a profit on its $90 million budget, grossing only $140 million at the box office. A film generally needs to double its budget to make it into profitable territory. The John Wick franchise will have a chance to right the ship soon with the premiere of Caine, the next spin-off film based on Donnie Yen’s John Wick: Chapter 4 character. Lionsgate announced earlier this year that the Caine movie is officially in production, but the only other cast member confirmed to star is Rina Sawayama as Akira, who also debuted in Chapter 4. This afternoon, news broke that Dacre Montgomery, famed for his role as Billy in Stranger Things, has officially joined the cast of the John Wick spin-off film, Caine.

What Is The New ‘Caine’ John Wick Movie About?

Details about Montgomery’s role in the film and plot specifics are being kept under wraps for now, but it has been confirmed that Caine will take place after John Wick: Chapter 4. In addition to starring in the film, Yen will also direct Caine, and Keanu Reeves is not expected to appear in the movie as John Wick in any capacity. The script for Caine comes from Mattson Tomlin, who also penned the screenplay for the highly anticipated Batman sequel being directed by Matt Reeves.
