Cate Blanchett to team up with Selena Gomez and Michael Fassbender

Cate Blanchett has joined the cast of an untitled X-rated movie by Brady Corbet. The film also features Michael Fassbender in a key role, but all details regarding the characters are still under wraps, reports Variety. Rumors have suggested that the project might be called The Origin of the World, but nothing is official at the moment.

The untitled X-rated movie is said to have its plot span over 150 years, from the 19th century to the present day. However, the story will mostly focus on the 1970s. Last year in November, Corbet confirmed that the film will explore “Northern California’s economy” in some way. Moreover, it will be shot “entirely” on 70mm.

The director also refuted several speculations about his upcoming movie. “All I can say about the new film is that there’s been a lot of misinformation. It’s true that the film is an X-rated movie, and it’s true that it takes place mostly in the 1970s, but the film spans from the 19th century into the present day — it’s just predominantly focused on the ’70s. The film is really, really genre-defying,” he said. “But it was reported that the movie has something to do with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which is not true at all. That is just inaccurate.”

Speaking about the cast, Cate Blanchett was recently seen in 2025’s comedy-drama Father Mother Sister Brother. She also starred in last year’s Black Bag movie. As for Gomez, she was seen in 2024’s Emilia Pérez. She has also starred in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building since 2021.

Corbet’s X-rated movie is yet to receive an official release date window.
