‘Bishop’: Jennifer Beals Joins Joel Kinnaman in New Prime Video Thriller Series!!

Over the last several years, Prime Video has become one of the most successful streaming platforms in the world. While its subscriber totals still don’t match up to Netflix, the service has produced some of the most successful crime thrillers of the streaming era, including Reacher (starring Alan Ritchson) and Bosch (starring Titus Welliver). The latter debuted on the platform in 2014 and ran for seven seasons before wrapping up in 2021. However, Prime Video revived the Bosch franchise just a year later with Bosch: Legacy, bringing Welliver back, and the appetite for more Bosch stories remains stronger than ever. The first season of the Ballard offshoot has already finished with another season on the way, and Prime Video is also working on a new Bosch prequel starring Cameron Monaghan (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order) as the iconic detective.

Now that the flagship Bosch series is over, Prime Video is always on the lookout for other classic crime thrillers. While Cross (starring Aldis Hodge) has partially filled the hole left behind by Harry Bosch, Amazon also seeks to further fill this gap with its highly-anticipated crime thriller, Bishop. Starring in the leading role of Bishop Graves is Joel Kinnaman, who plays a jaded detective Bosch fans will love. This afternoon, news broke that Jennifer Beals is the latest in a long line of stars to join the cast of Bishop, which is set to begin production soon at Amazon. Beals will play Maggie Loftin, a psychologist with the San Francisco police department. Beals recently played Garsa Fwip in the first and only season of The Book of Boba Fett.

What Is ‘Bishop’ About?

Bishop follows a brilliant but complicated homicide detective, Bishop Graves (played by Joel Kinnaman), who puts his skills to the test as he closes in on one of San Francisco’s most notorious serial killers who have been terrorizing the upper class for years. As his hunt brings him closer to his target, he realizes that there may be a potential connection to the killer and his father, Lincoln Graces (played by John Malkovich). Additional cast members for Bishop include Jennifer Jason Leigh as Jillian Graces, Jordana Brewster as Clairborne, Harry Treadaway as Wyatt, and Xavier Samuel as Anthony Graves. Ulrich Thomsen and Erik Svedberg-Zelman will also star in recurring roles, with Rob Yang and John Larroquette joining the ensemble as guest stars.

Bishop is set to be an ideal successor to Bosch while also appealing to fans of Dexter who are looking for another gripping serial killer drama. Bishop will also scratch the Reacher itch for fans of hard-boiled conspiracy thrillers. The show is being developed for TV by Little Marvin and Tony Saltzman.
