‘Avengers: Doomsday’ to Completely Reinvent the MCU!!

Only seven months remain until Avengers: Doomsday, and the Russo Brothers are hyping up the film once more. This upcoming MCU movie is set to bring back many Marvel stars to the big screen, including Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans. Joe and Anthony Russo‘s return to the MCU director’s chair also sparked shock among many, as fans thought the filmmakers were done with Marvel after Avengers: Endgame. But the filmmaking duo has more to show, and Avengers: Doomsday would be the perfect place to showcase that.

The plot of Avengers: Doomsday has yet to be revealed, but it’s said to feature the return of many pre- and post- Infinity saga characters. Additionally, it will mark Downey Jr.‘s return to the MCU, this time playing The Fantastic Four villain, Doctor Doom, rather than the MCU‘s first big screen hero, Iron Man. Avengers: Doomsday was first announced in 2024 at San Diego Comic-Con and would replace its previous title, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, after Marvel fired Jonathan Majors following harassment and assault allegations.

In a recent video from AGBO Films, the Russo Brothers spoke about their time working on previous MCU films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, and the positive reception they received from audiences. The filmmakers then briefly addressed Avengers: Doomsday and promised that this upcoming feature will mark a shift in Marvel’s ever-growing serialized storytelling. Joe Russo said:

“There’s a place for serialized storytelling. It should all coexist. Why not? I want a diversity of experiences. I don’t want to have to just get one thing over and over again. And what Marvel’s done better than anybody in history is to serialize storytelling at scale. And Doomsday is, you know, a complete reinvention. It’s another swing. I don’t think the audience is expecting it at all, what happens in the movie, and it’s a tone, and it’s subject matter. It feels like another profound shift for them in that serialized story.”

What To Watch Before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Avengers: Doomsday will feature many of the MCU characters teaming up once more, seven years after Avengers: Endgame. Due to the huge cast list this movie will feature, some titles are must-watches, while others can be skipped if you want to be prepared for Marvel’s potential blockbuster. The first that comes to mind are the recent installments in the MCU, since many of the new actors will be returning. These include Shang-Chi, Deadpool and Wolverine, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Thor: Love and Thunder, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. In terms of Disney+ TV content, the titles you’re most likely to need to watch to understand Doomsday are Loki Seasons 1 and 2, as Tom Hiddleston is returning, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, due to Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan‘s casting confirmation.

When it comes to the pre-Infinity Saga characters, you’ll want to be familiar with Fox‘s X-Men films to see how these characters worked together before the MCU existed, and to get a good refresher on who the X-Men were. Finally Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels feature the first MCU appearance of Patrick Stewart‘s Charles Xavier and Kelsey Grammer‘s Beast.

Avengers: Doomsday will enter theaters on December 18, 2026.
