The Odyssey reveals new look at Athena, Clytemnestra, Penelope, Calypso, and more
New stills from The Odyssey have been shared, showing three of the film’s central women: Clytemnestra, Penelope, and Calypso, as well as the Greek goddess Athena. Their arrivals coincide with their respective actresses, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and Zendaya’s recent interviews with Elle, where they offered insights into their characters. Additionally, Nyong’o is also essaying Clytemnestra’s sister, the famed Helen of Troy, whose picture wasn’t shared.
Zendaya’s Athena, clad in simple white robes, is shown sitting inside what appears to be a ship. Notably, she has a dull facial expression.
Meanwhile, Nyong’o’s Clytemnestra, face seemingly drenched in sweat, looks shocked at something she is seeing. Part of her purple regal robes and her golden hair clip that holds a portion of her curly hair in place is visible.
Anne Hathaway’s Penelope, the Queen of Ithaca, wearing her navy blue royal gown with a thick red waistband and a gold mesh collar, is seen holding a golden bow.
Finally, Charlize Theron’s Calypso, sporting her beige dress, is shown warmly embracing Matt Damon’s Odysseus, who is beside her.
The Odyssey premieres in theaters on July 17. Christopher Nolan wrote and directed it. He and his wife, and producing partner, Emma Thomas, also co-produced with Universal Pictures through their production banner, Syncopy. The latter is distributing the film in theaters.
In addition to Damon, Zendaya, Nyong’o, Hathaway, and Theron, The Odyssey stars Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Himesh Patel, Will Yun Lee, and Mia Goth.
Ludwig Göransson composed the score, marking his third collaboration with Nolan following 2020’s Tenet and 2023’s Oppenheimer. Meanwhile, Hoyte van Hoytema handled the cinematography while Jennifer Lame edited the action-adventure epic.
