‘The Rainmaker’ Season 2 Adds Libby Kay & Liam O’Halloran!!

It seems that courtroom dramas are never going out of style, and that’s extremely beneficial for shows like The Rainmaker. The USA Network legal drama, based on John Grisham’s best-selling novel, is already gearing up for Season 2 after a superb opening season, and now a pair of new names are bringing some fresh blood into what’s already sounding like an increasingly messy season for Rudy Baylor and his pals.

The Rainmaker has officially added two new stars to the cast. Libby Kay will play Megan Grenier, the new razor-sharp assistant to ruthless attorney Amanda Vonn, while Liam O’Halloran is set to appear as Boone McCready, a rising baseball pitcher connected to Tom Cassidy, the ex-husband of Lana Parrilla’s Bruiser. Ex-husbands coming onto the scene usually only mean happy things, right? The series follows Rudy Baylor, a newly qualified lawyer who finds himself taking on powerful courtroom figure Leo Drummond. Alongside Bruiser and P. J. Byrne’s chaotic paralegal Deck, Rudy uncovers a pair of conspiracies tied to the mysterious death of a client’s son. Season 2 is taking things to the next level, with the trio taking on a case involving hundreds of children where even winning could come at a serious cost.

The return of the show is a huge deal for the network, as it became its most-watched freshman series in seven years, averaging 1.3 million total viewers, and the finale was the season’s most-watched episode. That was strong enough for USA to renew it for Season 2. Critically, it was something of a mixed bag — sitting at around 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and 53 on Metacritic — so this wasn’t a prestige breakout. Commercially, for USA, though, it was a huge boon and a welcome return to scripted drama.

The cast for the series includes Milo Callaghan (The Spanish Princess) as Rudy Baylor, John Slattery (Mad Men) as Leo Drummond, Lana Parrilla (Once Upon a Time) as Bruiser, P. J. Byrne (Babylon) as Deck, Madison Iseman (I Know What You Did Last Summer) as Sarah, Merle Dandridge (The Last of Us) as Amanda Vonn, Karen Bryson (Shameless), and Austin Nichols (One Tree Hill). Behind the scenes, the series comes from Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television, with Michael Seitzman serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside Grisham, Patrick Moran, Jason Richman, David Gernert, and Jason Blum.
