Seven months after earning a Season 3 order, the most anticipated returning video game adaptation has an exciting casting update for fans looking forward to seeing this character finally appear on screens. Set in the Divided States of America, a post-apocalyptic version of the U.S., Twisted Metal is inspired by the iconic game franchise from Sony Interactive Entertainment. The small-screen adaptation was greenlit by Peacock in February 2022 and premiered with 10 episodes in July 2023. Season 2 followed two years later, and in November of the same year, Twisted Metal was renewed for a third season.
As of this writing, the post-apocalyptic series doesn’t have a return date, plus details about the season’s plot are yet to be revealed. In the meantime, the Twisted Metal cast has been expanded to include a Star Wars legend who will join in a recurring role, per new reports. Emmy winner Mark Hamill has been tapped to play Pope Charlie Kane, the leader of the Eastern Sovereignty and estranged father of Sweet Tooth (Joe Seanoa/voice of Will Arnett).
Most recently, Hamill was seen starring opposite Tom Hiddleston in Mike Flanagan’s Stephen King adaptation The Life of Chuck for Neon as well as another King adaptation, The Long Walk. He was also a voice actor in Universal‘s Oscar-nominated The Wild Robot and Paramount‘s SpongeBob: Search for SquarePants.
What Went Down in ‘Twisted Metal’ Season 2?
Twisted Metal follows John Doe (Anthony Mackie), a talkative delivery driver offered a chance at a better life but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Alongside Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz), a tough ax-wielding car thief, he faces savage marauders in heavily armed vehicles and other dangers lurking on the open road, including the deranged clown Sweet Tooth and his all-too-familiar ice cream truck.
Set after the events of the Season 1 finale, Season 2 sees John and Quiet enter the deadly Twisted Metal tournament, a sinister demolition derby hosted by the enigmatic Calypso (Anthony Carrigan). As they battle dangerous new enemies and familiar foes alike, including the murderous Sweet Tooth, John’s journey takes a personal turn when he reunites with his long-lost sister, the vigilante Dollface (Tiana Okoye).
Twister Metal Season 2, comprising 12 episodes, ran from July 31 to August 28, 2025. The season amassed 993 million minutes viewed on Peacock and stands as the platform’s second-highest-reaching original returning scripted season.
