What a year it’s been so far for Pierce Brosnan, and not just because he’s been asked about the next iteration of James Bond nearly every time he’s made a public appearance. It’s now been well over 20 years since Brosnan has suited up as 007, but he’s still finding time to star in some of the biggest movies and TV shows each year. Brosnan’s latest big role comes from starring opposite Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren in MobLand, the crime thriller show directed and produced by Guy Ritchie. The series was in the spotlight recently thanks to a controversial report detailing Tom Hardy’s firing, but the show has since course-corrected, and it’s been revealed that Hardy has been asked back. Even if MobLand had crumbled, though, Brosnan has enough on his plate to keep his fans satisfied for the next few years.
One of the more intriguing projects in the works for Brosnan is a remake of Cliffhanger, the 1993 survival thriller of the same name starring Sylvester Stallone. Stallone and Brosnan are mostly viewed as coming from the same era, so it’s a bit surprising to see one remaking the other’s movie. However, the Cliffhanger remake has already wrapped filming and is coming to theaters on August 28, but the studio heads are so pleased with what they’ve seen of the film that they’re already anxious for more. Late last year, it was reported that a sequel to the remake of Cliffhanger was already being discussed, though it’s unclear if Brosnan or his co-star Lily James will return for the project. No details about Cliffhanger 2 are available yet, but if the remake performs well later this year, the sequel should have no issue getting the green light to move forward.
What Else Do We Know About the ‘Cliffhanger’ Reboot?
The Cliffhanger reboot will follow a mountain guide and his daughter, who run an alpine climbing business in the Italian Alps. However, when they face a tragic event that forces them to confront and overcome adversity, they’re forced to face new foes and fight against emerging chaos that has both father and daughter on the brink of death. The film was written by Ana Lily Amirpour, Mark Bianculli, Sascha Penn, and Melanie Toast, and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Collet-Serra recently directed the Taron Egerton-led Netflix thriller, Carry-On.
