Star Wars fans have had plenty of content to parse at the start of 2026, including a new Disney Plus series and the franchise’s first feature film since 2019. The latter, Maul — Shadow Lord, returns Sam Witwer to his longtime role as the legendary Sith Lord, and Disney was so sure that the show was going to be a hit that it was renewed for Season 2 days before the premiere. Disney was proven right when Maul — Shadow Lord earned 99% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes to become the highest-rated Star Wars show of all time. Disney certainly didn’t find the same level of success with The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is tracking to become the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie in history by the end of its global run.
It’s unclear at this time what lies beyond The Mandalorian and Grogu for the Star Wars franchise in 2026, but one of the first projects confirmed to be released next year is Ahsoka Season 2, which is slated to premiere in “early 2027.” Star Wars prequel icon Hayden Christensen recently attended a panel at Space Con in San Antonio, and he capped off the events by confirming the news everyone has been waiting to hear, “Anakin [Skywalker] will be back in Ahsoka Season 2 in 2027!” The official Star Wars Holocron X account also shared the first image of Christensen as Anakin in Ahsoka Season 2, showing him donning his signature black robes he wore in Revenge of the Sith. Plot details about Ahsoka Season 2 are still being kept under wraps at this time, but the first official teaser or trailer for the series is expected to be released in the coming months.
Is Ahsoka in ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’?
After making her live-action debut in The Mandalorian Season 2 episode, “The Jedi,” Ahsoka Tano does not show up in The Mandalorian and Grogu to help Din Djarin or his little green friend. While the movie does feature some big stars like Sigourney Weaver and Martin Scorsese, it mostly steers away from the use of cameos, which some viewers found disappointing. For the first time in years, it’s unclear when or if The Mandalorian or Grogu will be seen again, but considering the popularity of both characters, it would be surprising if Disney didn’t have plans for them in the future.
