‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ Trailer Sees ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Favorite Return for a Sci-Fi Spin-Off!! Check It Out!!

The Big Bang Theory was averaging between 18 and 20 million views per episode when the show was at its peak, which would be enough today to make it one of the most popular shows on TV if it were airing today. The series debuted back in 2007, and new seasons were released on a yearly basis until the finale in 2019. Outside of network TV, this concept has become foreign in the modern landscape, where shows sometimes go on years-long hiatuses between seasons. Without Jim Parsons and his performance as Sheldon Cooper, it’s hard to dispute that The Big Bang Theory would have become as popular as it is today — Sheldon was such a key part of the series that CBS greenlit an entire spin-off show around him, Young Sheldon, which aired for seven seasons between 2017 and 2024. As fans await news about the next season of the latest spin-off, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, there’s another new project coming next month that’s going to flip the Big Bang universe on its head.

While prior episodes of any Big Bang Theory-adjacent shows have begun streaming on Paramount+ after airing on CBS, the franchise is moving to HBO Max for its next project, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. The new show stars Kevin Sussman as Stuart Bloom, and it’s set in a world where he attempts and fails to save the universe, staying true to his unlucky name. The first episode of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will be released on HBO Max on July 23, with new episodes coming weekly until the Season 1 finale on September 24. This afternoon, HBO unleashed the first official trailer for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, which feels so out of left field that it’s almost impossible to tie it back to the original Big Bang Theory show.

Who Else Stars in ‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’?

Lauren Lapkus, who recently starred in a few episodes of The Morning Show on Apple TV, will feature in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe as Denise. She played the character for a handful of episodes in the original Big Bang Theory show. Additional cast members for The Big Bang Theory sci-fi spin-off include Brian Posehn as Bert Kibbler, John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke, Louis Mustillo as Alexa, and Jascha Charron as Xena. The new offshoot was written and created for TV by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady.
