‘Dept. Q’ Season 2 Has Begun Production!!

Carl Morck may be one of the least enthusiastic people ever asked to solve a crime, but Netflix is making sure he has another one anyway. One of the streamer’s biggest crime hits in recent years is officially getting another case to crack, and that’s good news for all fans of Team Doolally.

Netflix UK confirmed that Season 2 is now filming, with Goode returning as Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck. He will once again be joined by Alexej Manvelov as Akram, Leah Byrne as Rose, and Jamie Sives as Hardy, while Edinburgh itself is also back in the picture as the moodiest, rainiest co-star in Europe, if not the world. Bring your umbrellas, then, lads.

The first season of Dept. Q became a major hit for Netflix after debuting in 2025, spending six weeks in the streamer’s Global Top 10. Created by Scott Frank, the series follows the brilliant but abrasive Morck as he takes charge of a new cold-case department operating from the basement of an Edinburgh police station.

Netflix has also revealed the broad shape of the new season’s investigation. This time, Carl and his team will tackle “a terrible crime hidden in the highest echelons of Scottish society.” Presumably, this won’t relate to a missing camper van owned by the husband of the first minister. (If that’s too deep a cut for you, Google it — it’s well worth the laugh).

Executive producer Rob Bullock said, “This season, Carl and his band of misfits tackle a terrible crime hidden in the highest echelons of Scottish society. It is a story for our times: rich and powerful people who believe they are above the law. Carl, of course, knows otherwise.”

Goode added, “I’d like to thank Netflix for giving us the opportunity to further investigate Dept. Q’s storylines. We have a wonderful cast and crew, headed by our resident genius Scott Frank. I cannot wait to read what comes from his magic quill!”

The returning cast also includes Mark Bonnar, Kate Dickie, Aaron McVeigh, and Sanjeev Kohli. New additions for Season 2 include Aisling Franciosi, Greg Wise, Nicholas Rowe, Tony Curran, Hamish Clark, Alex Ferns, Ross Anderson, Rebecca Root, Isla Johnston, and Amy Brenneman.
