Netflix has released plenty of new projects already this year and confirmed the development of countless more, but the biggest sci-fi series to stand out was Stranger Things. The final season of Stranger Things began airing last year, and after releasing in three parts, the sci-fi series years in the making finally came to a conclusion on New Year’s Day — Netflix even put the series finale in theaters, and it grossed millions. The final season of Stranger Things wasn’t without its controversy, though. Reports and rumors swirled online that there had been a rift between co-stars David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown, who play the father-daughter duo of Hopper and Eleven in the hit sci-fi series. These rumors have since been put to bed, with several public appearances of the two confirming that things between them are all good.
Still, despite these rumors being discredited, many fans felt that the duo would never work together again. This has also been debunked, as Netflix announced today it’s developing a new spy series that will reunite Stranger Things stars David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown. The duo will once again play a father-daughter pairing in a new espionage thriller being produced by A24 and Adolescence scribe Jack Thorne. Details about the project, including the title and additional cast members, are being kept under wraps for now, as it’s still in the early stages of development. As it often does, Netflix has already greenlit a full, straight-to-series order for the new spy thriller, though, which should help it get to the small screen sooner than if it had to go through the pilot process.
Why Didn’t Fans Like ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5?
Stranger Things Season 5 earned a 52% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, which was poor enough to make it the lowest-rated season of the entire show. Many fans felt that the show played too safe, only killing off one main character in a show with so many options to choose from, and even then being unable to commit to the character actually being dead. The story of Stranger Things will continue with a new spin-off, but the next show will have no ties to any of the gang from Hawkins.
