Finally, we know when Alan Ritchson‘s gigantic man with a plan will return to our screens as Prime Video has announced the return of Reacher, set to premiere on August 12. The season is based on Gone Tomorrow, by Lee Child, and sees Reacher in New York City amidst the threat of a terrorist attack.
He will be joined by Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette (Barry), Sydelle Noel (GLOW), Marc Blucas (My Life With the Walter Boys), Kevin Weisman (Alias), Agnez Mo, Anggun, Kathleen Robertson (The Expanse), and Kevin Corrigan (Poker Face). The series remains executive produced by Nick Santora, who also continues as showrunner. Prime Video recently renewed Reacher for Season 5 before the fourth season has even arrived, which tells you pretty much everything you need to know about how much the streamer likes having Ritchson smash through walls. The official synopsis for the book states:
In Gone Tomorrow by Lee Child, Jack Reacher witnesses a suspicious woman on a late-night New York City subway. When she commits suicide, Reacher is dragged into a deadly conspiracy involving Washington politicians, Al Qaeda, and a cover-up dating back to the war in Afghanistan.
What Can We Expect from ‘Reacher’ Season 4?
In a conversation with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff at SXSW, Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette spoke about signing up to Reacher Season 4 and what kind of role he has in the new episodes. When he was asked about the reports that it was “an especially meaty role,” Rodriguez-Marquette first joked, “I beefcaked out,” before making it clear his character is not some minor side player who just passes through for an episode or two.
“The character I played goes on a wild adventure with Reacher. Like all the Reacher shows, he wanders into a town, he finds trouble, the trouble involves me. My character decides, ‘I’m going to go figure out this mystery.’ He looks at me and is like, ‘You?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah!’ Then he’s like, ‘I’ll go with you.’ And I’m like, ‘Why?’ He’s like, ‘I’m good at not letting people get away with things.’ And then we go off on this crazy Midnight Run-esque, wild thing.”
