Who doesn’t love a historical British mystery series? The gorgeous countryside backdrops and the penchant for withholding information for fear of social outcast is the perfect blend for must-watch TV, especially when the source material is a beloved set of novels. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that one of the most acclaimed examples of this genre, Agatha Christie’s Poirot, would be receiving a fresh adaptation from the BBC and BritBox, with Edward Bluemel (My Lady Jane) solving crimes as the iconic Belgian detective in the new drama series Hercule.
But this isn’t the only historical British mystery adaptation given a green light, with it now confirmed in a new report that the teen spy series The Lady Grace Mysteries will return for a second season on the BBC. The series stars up-and-coming talent Evie Coles as the world’s first female teen detective, who works as a private spy for Queen Elizabeth I and navigates puzzles in the English court. Season 1 was an enormous success, scoring a huge 8.5/10 average score on IMDb, with two of the episodes even earning near-perfect 9.8/10 ratings.
“Following its fantastic debut on CBBC and BBC iPlayer, ‘The Lady Grace Mysteries’ returns for a second [season] as a brilliant co-viewing experience for families,” said the BBC’s senior head of children’s commissioning for 7+, Sarah Muller, in a statement. “Its blend of adventure, warmth, and humor creates a show that brings audiences together, sparking conversation and shared enjoyment across generations. We’re excited to continue working with our partners to deliver a series that offers even more moments for young viewers and their families to enjoy side by side.“
