‘The Odyssey’: Christopher Nolan’s Next Epic Officially Expands With Two New Books!!

Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey is almost here, and while audiences won’t set sail with Odysseus (Matt Damon) until the movie premieres on July 17, fans already have another reason to start clearing space on their bookshelves. If one trip to Ancient Greece isn’t going to be enough, two newly announced official companion books promise to take readers even deeper into Nolan‘s ambitious adaptation of Homer‘s legendary epic.

Insight Editions has announced a new publishing partnership with Universal Pictures and Syncopy to release two books inspired by The Odyssey. One is a comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at how Nolan brought the mythic adventure to life, while the other serves as an illustrated guide to the movie’s characters, locations, and world. Together, they offer fans two very different ways to continue exploring what is already shaping up to be one of the biggest movies of the year.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Will Get Two Official Companion Books

The first release from the collection is Filming the Odyssey: Inside the Making of Christopher Nolan’s Modern Epic by James Mottram, featuring a foreword by Matt Damon. The oversized 280-page hardcover follows the movie’s journey from script to the world’s largest screens through exclusive interviews with Nolan, members of the cast, and the creative team behind the production. The book also includes behind-the-scenes photography, concept art, production research, and other materials documenting the making of the movie. According to Insight Editions, it offers an all-access look at the creation of Nolan‘s latest epic, including the production of the first feature movie shot entirely with IMAX Film Cameras. For collectors, Barnes & Noble will also carry an exclusive edition featuring a retailer-exclusive cover.

The second release, The World of the Odyssey: A Visual Journey, shifts the focus away from filmmaking and toward the story itself. The 144-page hardcover acts as an illustrated companion to the movie, highlighting its characters, key locations, important objects, and major moments. It also features exclusive quotes from Nolan, the cast, and crew, along with a final chapter offering readers a glimpse behind some of the movie’s visual magic.

Filming the Odyssey: Inside the Making of Christopher Nolan’s Modern Epic arrives in August for $75, while The World of the Odyssey: A Visual Journey follows in September for $29.99. Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey opens exclusively in theaters on July 17.
