October 2022 was a pivotal month for fans of DC Comics. Following the debacle of Batgirl while still in post-production in 2021, it became abundantly clear that the DC Extended Universe had run its course and was in need of a re-jig. Warner Bros. Discovery decided to replace president of DC Films, Walter Hamada, with the duo of James Gunn and Peter Safran as Co-Chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios. Both were placed in charge of delivering on a 10-year plan for DC adaptations.
So the blueprint was drawn and launching Gunn and Safran‘s grand plan would be Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, a slate of titles set to unfold between 2025-2027 including five movies. As a launching pad to weave an interconnected universe for the Warner Bros. brand based on its DC characters, Gunn opted to begin with a reboot of Superman. With David Corenswet portraying the titular Kryptonian, Superman, originally titled Superman Legacy, made its way to theaters in mid-2025. A new Batman and Robin title, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl, which premiered last month, and a Swamp Thing feature, were all envisioned. As were several television shows.
The first TV show to be released in the DCU was Creature Commandos, a seven-episode animated series based on the DC Comics team of the same name. However, it wasn’t the only series on the new roster, as Peacemaker is the only DCEU series to cross over to the new DC Universe. Season 2 progressed the story from the first season, which was canon to the universe. Moving forward, due to the sheer volume of films and shows already mapped out, a third season of Peacemaker has not been confirmed yet. Thankfully, series star Jennifer Holland gave an encouraging update during a recent chat with People Magazine. Holland, who has played Emilia Harcourt in all 16 episodes so far, “could definitely see that happening,” whenever her real-life partner, James Gunn, asks her to return to the role. Despite no official announcements on Season 3 of Peacemaker so far, Holland “can’t wait to play Harcourt again,” but the actress admits she does not know “where we’re gonna see Harcourt again.” The Suicide Squad star does highlight that Peacemaker is “such a cool thing to be a part of.”
Where Did Season 2 of ‘Peacemaker’ Leave Us?
By the time Season 2 of Peacemaker ended, it felt like the chaos had only just begun. Prior to its season finale, Chris Smith, a.k.a. Peacemaker (John Cena), had fallen into an existential spiral. His father is gone, the relationship he thought he had with his former teammate and ex-lover was equally non-existent, and the definition of what being a “hero” even means had become a struggle. The decision to enter his father’s old Quantum Unfolding Chamber, a strange portal that opens a path to another dimension, took the series down a wild turn. Lucky for Chris, he’s in a dimension where his life isn’t such a mess.
But the dangers remain as Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) is still seeking revenge for his son’s death. The new director of A.R.G.U.S. has all the resources and people to get back at Peacemaker. With the aftermath of Peacemaker Season 2, it seems like Flag Sr. got what he wanted. However, his decision to cooperate with one of Metropolis’ most dangerous criminals might just do more harm than good — not to him alone, but the entirety of the organization he leads, A.R.G.U.S. By the time the Season 2 finale was done, we were seemingly left with more burning questions than soothing answers. Hence, Season 3 of Peacemaker seems like a great avenue to clear things up.
